ICC announces squads for fifth round of Pepsi ICC WCL Championship and ICC I Cup matches
The International Cricket Council today announced the squads for six of the eight teams to play in the crucial fifth round of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Championship and ICC Intercontinental Cup, which kick off in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 6 March 2013.

In the first fixture of the fifth round, Afghanistan will face Scotland on 6 and 8 March in a WCL Championship fixture at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, a match-up that Afghanistan must win to keep its hopes alive for a top-two finish. The two sides will then face off in an Intercontinental Cup fixture from 12 March at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, UAE will play host to table-topper Ireland, also at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, for two WCL Championship 50-over matches, on 18 and 20 March. The teams will also meet in an Intercontinental Cup fixture from 12 to 15 March.

UAE must win this WCL Championship fixture to stay in contention for a top-two finish.

Also in UAE, Kenya will face Canada on 11 and 13 March for two WCL Championship ODIs at the ICC Global Cricket Academy Oval No.1, Dubai. The two sides will then play each other in the Intercontinental Cup from 18 March.

Currently, only three points separate the top four teams in the WCL Championship, with Ireland in first place (13 points), Scotland in second (11 points), Netherlands in third and UAE in fourth (both on 10 points).

The fifth round of the WCL Championship is therefore a pivotal round for the competing teams, as it could determine the two teams that will qualify directly from the WCL Championship to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, to be staged in Australia and New Zealand.

The top two teams from the WCL Championship will automatically join the ICC's 10 Full Members at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, while the bottom six teams will receive a second opportunity to advance to the ICC's flagship global event by competing in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in early 2014. This 10-team event will determine the final two qualifiers for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

The final fifth round fixture, between Namibia and Netherlands, will be played at Wanderers, Windhoek, from 11 April, and the squads will be announced closer to the date.
